When should you prune shrubs?
The right pruning time depends on the shrub species. Most ornamental shrubs are best pruned in early spring before new growth begins. Flowering shrubs such as forsythia, rhododendron and lilac should be pruned immediately after flowering, otherwise you remove next year's flower buds.
Neglected shrubs that have not been pruned for years can be renovated by hard pruning over 2–3 seasons for the best result without stressing the plant. We work across North Holland: Alkmaar, Haarlem, Amsterdam, Hoorn and surrounding areas.
