Felling permits in North Holland
In most North Holland municipalities a felling permit (omgevingsvergunning) is required for trees above a certain trunk circumference. Rules differ per municipality, Alkmaar, Haarlem, Amsterdam and Heerhugowaard each have their own tree ordinance.
We check for free whether your tree requires a permit and guide the application process. Average processing time is 8 weeks. In case of immediate danger a tree can often be felled straight away, usually with a notification to the municipality. Occupied nests remain protected.
When is a permit required?
- Alkmaar: trunk circumference ≥ 31 cm at 1.30 m height
- Haarlem: own tree ordinance applies
- Amsterdam: permit required above specific diameter
- Emergency felling: often possible straight away in case of immediate danger, usually with a notification
